Sony cambia idea: gli store di PlayStation 3 e PlayStation VITA restano aperti

Con un clamoroso dietrofront annunciato sulle pagne di PlayStation Blog, Sony ha annunciato che non chiuderà gli store digitali di PlayStation 3 e PlayStation VITA, che continueranno ad operare oltre le date che erano state prefissate in precedenza, tranne invece lo store per PlayStation Portable (PSP) che cesserà ogni attività il 2 luglio 2021.

Si tratta di una decisione indubbiamente clamorosa, considerando che l’azienda sembra piuttosto decisa a lasciarsi alle spalle queste precedenti generazioni di console per concentrarsi su PlayStation 4 e PlayStation 5.

Inizialmente, la decisione di interrompere la funzionalità di acquisto per PS3 e PS Vita è nata da una serie di fattori, tra cui le difficoltà legate al supporto delle funzionalità commerciali per i dispositivi meno recenti e la possibilità di concentrare più risorse sui dispositivi più recenti su cui gioca la maggior parte degli utenti.

Nella nota sul PlayStation Blog, Sony dichiara:

Ci siamo resi conto che molti fan tengono davvero tanto alla possibilità di poter continuare ad acquistare titoli classici per PS3 e PS Vita nell’immediato futuro, quindi sono contento che siamo riusciti a trovare una soluzione per continuare a garantire queste funzionalità.

Gli utenti in possesso di una PlayStation VITA potranno comunque continuare ad acquistare e scaricare i titoli PSP presenti in forma digitale sullo store. Difficile dire per quanto tempo ancora Sony continuerà a mantenere i server, ma se avevate dei dubbi su cosa recuperare prima della chiusura, adesso avrete più tempo a vostra disposizione per ponderare gli acquisti.
